Our Pre-School seeks to nurture each child as an individual, building the vital moral foundation and interpersonal skills to become a valued and useful member of society. In our cosy family feel Pre-School, we seek to nurture positive attitudes and a sense of responsibility and consideration of others. Most children will leave Pre-School being able to write their own names, able to recognise a few familiar words and knowing and understanding their numbers up to 10. Most importantly, they will have developed an enjoyment of, and interest in, learning. Beyond our Pre-School room and garden, we take full advantage of our exceptional surroundings with regular visits to the park and walks around the area. We aim to give children fun and enjoyment through stimulating, supported play experiences. Through identifying and meeting the diverse needs of all children, we support every child to reach their full potential in all areas of their development.
The Early Years Foundation Stage places strong emphasis on the importance and value of daily outdoor experiences for children’s learning and development. By providing engaging, hands-on activities, the outdoors can facilitate effective outcomes in the different areas of learning and development.
Learning outside supports the development of healthy and active lifestyles by offering children opportunities for physical activity, freedom, and movement, and promoting a sense of well-being. It gives them contact with the natural world and offers them experiences that are unique to outdoors, such as direct contact with the weather and the seasons.
Outdoor play also supports children’s problem-solving skills and nurtures their creativity, as well as providing rich opportunities for their developing imagination, inventiveness, and resourcefulness.
At Nishkam Nursery, outdoor play is an important part of the daily routine and we operate a free flow system where children can take their learning outside throughout the day. All staff have a responsibility for Health & Safety and ensure all risks are minimised always.
Staff welcome children into nursery as they begin to arrive at around 8.00am. Breakfast is served until 9.00am. Children enjoy a wide range of activities throughout the day which are balanced between child and adult led. We plan for children’s experiences through carefully looking at their needs, their interests, and choices. They enjoy singing songs, music, dance, learning to play instruments, developing their language and communication skills, free play, quiet experiences, and other programmed experiences. Adult-led, small and large group activities are offered during each session. Outdoor activities contribute to children’s health, their physical development, and their knowledge of the world around them. Children are regularly exposed to the outdoor environment to get lots of fresh air and to explore the garden. At this stage, we begin to build on children’s independence in preparation for when they move on to school. Lunch is served at 12.00am and tea is at around 4.00pm. Healthy snacks and fresh water is available throughout the day.
