The Toddler room is another bright spacious room which caters for up to 16 children. At this age children are exploring their powers to communicate, to move purposely and to assert their independence and individuality. We provide the manageable challenges and relaxed environment that two to three year olds need. Staff understand the frequent changes in moods, interests, and capabilities and provide calm, consistent care and supportive teaching. Children of this age are exploring boundaries and staff are very skilled at providing an excellent balance between allowing them freedom to learn and experiment, learning social skills, consideration for others, and the need to follow rules for their own safety and that of others.
Children are introduced to a slightly more structured routine in preparation for their move to Pre-School.
Toilet training tends to happen in this room and staff are very experienced in making this as stress free for both children and parents as possible. They will give lots of support to ensure consistency between home and nursery.
The Early Years Foundation Stage places strong emphasis on the importance and value of daily outdoor experiences for children’s learning and development. By providing engaging, hands-on activities, the outdoors can facilitate effective outcomes in the different areas of learning and development.
Learning outside supports the development of healthy and active lifestyles by offering children opportunities for physical activity, freedom, and movement, and promoting a sense of well-being. It gives them contact with the natural world and offers them experiences that are unique to outdoors, such as direct contact with the weather and the seasons.
Outdoor play also supports children’s problem-solving skills and nurtures their creativity, as well as providing rich opportunities for their developing imagination, inventiveness, and resourcefulness.
At Nishkam Nursery, outdoor play is an important part of the daily routine and we operate a free flow system where children can take their learning outside throughout the day. All staff have a responsibility for Health & Safety and ensure all risks are minimised always.
Staff welcome children into nursery as they begin to arrive at around 8.00am. Breakfast is served until 9.00am. Children enjoy a wide range of activities throughout the day, for example, singing songs, free play, quiet experiences, and other programmed experiences. Children are regularly exposed to the outdoor environment to get lots of fresh air and to explore the garden. Nappies are changed every three hours, or when there is a need to change. However, at this stage we begin to toilet train children. Children’s independence is encouraged so that they are well prepared for their next stage of learning. Children generally sleep around lunch time, but individual routines may vary from child to child. Lunch is served at 11.30am and tea is at around 3.00pm. Healthy snacks and fresh water is available throughout the day.
