Practitioners at the Nishkam Nursery have the commitment to an inside code of practice, which are as follows: All children will be supervised by a qualified member of staff at all times throughout their stay at the nursery. All students will have a member of staff to support them and will not be left alone with a group of children. The daily routine for children will be structured. Curriculum planning and play rotas will be on display to all key adults within the Nursery. The rotas will take into account the individual child’s needs and development. All equipment used within the nursery, will be checked by a member of staff and management team. Any equipment that is broken or unsafe will be removed and when possible replaced. The playrooms will be laid out to enable a safe learning and play environment. The fire doors will be free from obstacles and doors will open during the day for easy and safe exit, from the rooms in case of a fire. All spillages within the nursery will be cleared away promptly, using the correct cleaning materials. All staff within the Nursery will wear appropriate protective coverings, when bodily spillages occur. Running and climbing up the doors will be discouraged by staff. Games, videos, toys and books etc. that depict violence will be discouraged within the Nursery. Any games, videos, toys, books etc. that are brought in by a child will be kept in their bag until the child leaves at the end of the day. Protective clothing for messy activities such as painting, water and sand play, will be encouraged as and when appropriate. Within the Nursery, positive images will be encouraged which will reflect the cultural diversity at the Nishkam Nursery. Toys, displays and activities will be culturally sensitive encompassing our Equal Opportunities Policy. All students carrying out activities with a group of children will be supervised. The nursery routine will be flexible and on occasions may change due to the child’s needs or staffing situation. Staff will be responsible for supervision of all the children that attend the Nursery and will ensure all Health & Safety regulations are adhered to at all times. Children’s Safety is Paramount.
