Here at the Nishkam Nursery outdoor play is an important part of the daily routine and we operate a free flow system where children can take their learning outside throughout the day. All staff have a responsibility for Health & Safety and must ensure all risks are minimised AT ALL TIMES. It is important that the following points are adhered to before any children are taken outside:
  • A member of staff must complete a check of the outside play area, ensuring there is no debris or hazardous items e.g. broken glass.
  • Members of staff must wear gloves to pick up any litter.
  • Staff member must sign the outside check list sheet and notify in each playroom.
  • Staff must position themselves in the play ground to observe all hot spots.
  • All equipment used outside should be checked by a member of staff, all broken toys and equipment will be reported to the management team and then removed.
  • The large outdoor equipment will be supervised by a member of staff; such as the climbing frame, slide etc while the children are playing.
  • Each member of staff should ensure that they are aware of where the children are at all times, and keeping a note of how many children are outside. Staff should inform each other when leaving the playground.
  • The staff will make sure that all children are suitably dressed for the weather, and provide extra protection as and when needed.
  • Within the Nursery positive images will be encouraged which will reflect the cultural diversity. Toys, displays and activities will be culturally sensitive encompassing our Equal Opportunities Policy.
  • All students will be supervised at all times.
  • The nursery routine will be flexible and may on occasions change due to child’s needs or staffing situation.
